Sep. 5th, 2012 05:03 amMagical Witch Punie-chan, congratulations! You have just managed to break a damn record!
To think that this was the very title I received for my birthday this year, and that I was dissatisfied with there being only Japanese audio on this version. Just last night, I finally got around to watching this shit, and the first five minutes or less alone have no less than three instances of female-on-male abuse played for laughs. That more than likely says enough about the series as a whole.
For the record, I can tolerate some level of this kind of stuff in any of its various forms, stuff that portrays males in contexts that most writers would never dream of switching the gender roles in. It's almost unavoidable in any given medium, especially given how already narrow my actual interests are in anime. Karin features the titular character's father, who is somewhat of a buffoon and has to be kept in line by his wife, but that only happens on the sidelines. Ditto for Misato's treatment of Kojiro in Nichijou. Air's second episode had Hijiri threaten Yukito with a scalpel for if he failed to deliver Kano's lunch to her; that's pushing it already, but I decided to keep going and only stop if such a thing becomes persistent (which it hasn't too much). Hell, even Kanon, without its main character being a loser, had the way Kaori treats Jun in just its first episode, which admittedly began to set me off, but I kept watching anyway, and saw it through because the amount of time that's shown is fairly minimal. In any other medium, though, I wouldn't let any of even that fly. I have nothing to say in this show's defense, just "Welcome to the black list!"
Yeah. I do remember ranting about Elfen Lied before without even a cut, but that was two and a half years ago. Enough said.

Date: 2019-07-16 08:48 am (UTC)Normally, I already do make lists of titles that particularly interest me for on Christmas or birthdays, but it is also fun to receive stuff I don't ask for as bonuses. For example, on Christmas of '10, I received Burn Up! W, Pani Poni Dash!, and the first three volumes of the Read Or Die manga. Both of the first two were stuff I specifically listed, although the last one wasn't because I didn't even ask for any manga to begin with, although it still does pass.
For my past birthday this year, though, there wasn't anything in particular I was interested in at the time. But yeah, anticipation for Christmas of this year is exactly why I (finally) got around to continuing business with Netflix. And furthermore, I also look stuff up on TV Tropes to make sure that the work in question doesn't contain Double Standard Abuse/Rape: Female On Male or anything along the same lines. (I added the trope example myself to the page for Dai Mahou Touge (which became MWP-chan here).)
So, yeah, I will most likely take your advice. And, as long as I'm already keeping a blacklist, I suppose I might as well make a subsection for anime on it, and also one for games, so that whoever is buying stuff for me knows what to avoid.
