Didn't think we would keep talking about this into yesterday. But two nights ago at dinner, Dad told us that "Easter" actually comes from Ishtar, the Mesopotamian goddess of fertility, and that rabbits and eggs are also symbols of fertility.

He also mentioned that, on a similar note, Christmas (derived from "Christ Mass") was celebrated on the shortest day of the year (now known as Winter Solstice), rather than on the 25th of December, and in fact, had other holidays in its place long before Jesus Christ was born.
