Apr. 4th, 2013 08:40 amLast Sunday, I went with Mom down to the shop, and stopped at the gas station while we were there. Saw Hamit at the counter, and asked him for an Instant Jackpot. He didn't have any of those, and without any twice-a-week games ending that day, all I did was exchange $5 worth of change for a bill.
The following day, Mom dropped me off at the gym to have a workout session to myself. I did some exercises, and then walked over to Stop 'N' Shop to buy a Lucky 8's at one of the vending machines. Came back, called Mom to come pick me up, and it turned out she was already in line at the checkout at Savers just next door. Scratched off the card when we got home, and won $5 back.
The day after that, I brought the card with me as she, I, and Dad all went to the gym, and at some point redeemed it for a Pick 10 ticket worth five games. Won $4 back with that one by getting zero matching numbers on Game C. (I'm not kidding. That actually is pretty hard to pull off, because while each game has ten numbers, there are twenty that are drawn each night between 1 and 80.)
Just yesterday, Mom and I had to go out for haircuts. Got mine at Andrew's, while she got hers at Francesca's down the street from him. Walked over to the gas station just across the street after mine was done, and bought a two-game ticket each for PowerBall and Lotto (the latter for $1 worth of spare change I had), before meeting Mom at Francesca's.
And, that's where my winning streak ended. Took $1 worth of change from the kitchen jar at 3 this morning to buy a Take 5 ticket with, next time we go out somewhere (other than the gym, where I normally don't bring money), but I'm in no hurry to actually buy one. In fact, one of my rules states that gambling should never be the main purpose of going out somewhere, although I have recently been taking opportunities to go anywhere with Mom, mainly to pass time and then come back home and see if anyone's gotten back to me about anything.

The two of us stopped by at Target on the way home from Francesca's. While we were there, I noticed for the second time ever, some retro-style boxes of cereal by General Mills, such as Cocoa Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Lucky Charms. Showed Mom, and she also noticed a $5 discount or something for collected vintage games.

Recently, I used this website to make a rough plan for the path the party would be traveling in Starbound, using Random.org to determine the latitude and longitude of each destination (down just to the degree). That is, after they leave Japan and recruit the sixth and seventh members from England and Brazil respectively. Barring all points in Antarctica or on a body of water, the first two of these just so happened to be in Kazakhstan. That would have meant that that country is where the eighth member would join and everyone be forced apart from one another to different parts of the world. But then, it occurred to me that perhaps the eighth could be met in Turkey instead, in reference to Dad's friends Hamit and Behiya Bunyat down in Patchogue.
The other day, I had Chelle decide on some appropriate outfits for Maria (the British girl), Nursen (who would have been met in Turkey), MROB (a combat gynoid representing her, to be met in Germany after separation), and Claire (to be met in Canada after separation), based on their culture and personalities. She then asked if Nursen would have been one of the very few females in her country not to wear a Hijab, and while certain popular beliefs about both Islam and the Middle East are not completely true, I do see her point.
So, I generated some new numbers, and the first one even near any bodies of land was situated in the Bahamas, at 25° north, 76° west, right in the vicinity of Eleuthera Island, Little San Salvadore, and Cat Island. Marked it down on the back of a Sweet Million ticket I bought last week, but then decided that maybe I should select Bermuda instead, where our Aunt Tracy and Uncle Steve live. (Turkey will be the place where everyone gets separated from one another.)
Coinciding with the last paragraph in the above cut, Mom read on her Facebook friends page, someone she knows at work said that he was stuck on Eleuthera Island while waiting out a storm, until someone else sailed him to the Bahamas' main island. Even more coincidentally, Eleuthera happens to be where Uncle Robby had gone on vacation at least once before, maybe several times but having definitely brought Grandpa Bob with him once. And that was right before she noticed what I wrote on the ticket.

Date: 2019-07-16 11:35 am (UTC)Actually, my only point was that I didn't include a hijab in the clothing design because that would get in the way of the hive, operating on the idea she either wasn't Islamic or was one of those who don't subscribe to the hijab tradition. I wasn't trying to make an argument against using Turkey as home to one of the girls.
