Sick of men-bashing?
May. 19th, 2006 07:11 amI need to send my emails in three days.
Two days ago, right after an episode of The King of Queens (a.k.a. Doug & Carrie), I brought up the topic of men-bashing, and why men are usually the butt of the joke in sitcoms and other humorous fandoms. I said that it's a counter to all the discrimination that women had to endure throughout history, but Dad said that men make better jokes than women. I did tell them that manipulation is what mainly gets on my nerves, although slapstick abuse in general does annoy me as well, since only women do it to men. (Men and women can do it to people of their own sex, though.)
1)The Simpsons: Marge finds out that two girls are hosting a pornography site right inside Ned's house, and drags Homer by his ear. When Homer says something else, she pulls his ear again to get him to tell Ned the truth.
2)Family Guy: One night before Meg's play, Peter insists that he's gonna stay home to watch something, and Lois has to bash his face into the floor to get him to change his mind.
3)Peanuts (the comic strip, not the TV series): Lucy asks Linus to make her a sandwich, and the latter tells her to make her own. She threatens to punch him into oblivion if he doesn't comply, and he does.
4)Calvin & Hobbes: Calvin's mother always rebukes her husband when he makes stuff up in response to one of Calvin's questions.
5)Mon Colle Knights: Rockna's comical abuse towards Mondo when he flirts with another girl.
6)Love Hina: Any of the girls' comical abuse towards Keitaro when he does something stupid.
Ending the conversation, I told my parents that the main reason I ordered Amazing Nurse Nanako at the library was because the main character is a female idiot who's abused and threatened by her boss. In fact, Nanako's very first scene in the series is a fine example of that. (Hooray for Amazing Nurse Nanako, Excel Saga, Ikki Tousen, and any other fandoms starring stupid, airheaded female characters.)
Last night, I showed Mom and Dad two things right after King of Queens. The first things was a webpage full of women-bashing jokes which are every bit as funny as men-jokes.

The other thing is a scene from the first episode of Excel Saga, in which Excel, holding the job as a construction site traffic director, goofs off and wields the traffic stick around wildly. In fact, I set up my DVD yesterday morning paused right before that scene to show everyone.
