Jul. 7th, 2014 05:55 amCome to think of it, I don't seem to recall reading that many lighthearted Lucky Star fanfics, even more than a year ago when I was actively interested in LS fics in general. Guess I'll make a list of what I haven't read and see if there are any reasons for each.

Marie happened to spot Mars just above the moon two nights ago, and called Mom's cell phone to fill her in. Mom lent me the phone to let Marie tell me as well, but then she had to hang up afterwards.

Just read on Jake's blog last night, that despite living in Brazil, Jake's entire family consists of immigrants or direct descendants thereof. Brought that up with him on AIM afterwards, mentioning that future OC protagonist Daví Aradeiras of Starbound might need part of his name modified. He told me (as well as when I first picked it when he provided me some common D-names in Brazil) that "Daví" is really a variation of "David". However, it is still along the same lines as "Ricardo" being the Spanish equivalent to "Richard", especially since the "i" is accented (or was when he first presented it to me).
"Aradeiras" was something I picked from a list of Portuguese surnames (not on Wikipedia), but yeah, ethnic diversity in each country is a good point to depict in Starbound. Japan is one thing, given how little diversity that country has even in real life, but even that country has non-Japanese-descended residents (guess who Super Mario was named after?). The person who goes by the name "agataylor" on DeviantArt lives in Brazil, but has the Paypal name Elisabeth Schardong; surname sounds Chinese, not sure exactly, but definitely not Portuguese. To assume that 99% of people living somewhere that isn't the United States or Canada have whole names that reflect their home country's vernacular is just as easy a trap to fall into as stereotypes associated with those people or even the country itself, although not quite as blatant.
