Brian told me yesterday that he'll be having a few days off for New Year's. After having reconsidered whether to go home today or remain here a bit longer, I've decided on the latter. This would be a perfect time for me to focus on the lemon, and to ask him to continue reading Starbound so that he can share whatever thoughts he has about it right with me.

-----

Brian brought his current girlfriend Colleen over for dinner last night, and ordered some food from this restaurant called Greenfed. I asked him to order a bacon cheeseburger, and also had myself a fried pickle (one from a box of them).

Went to his apartment with a box of pastries that he brought earlier on, assuming they were for a party we were having there. He would soon enough clear up that he meant those for me and a few others, and suggested I put them in Marie's room. I had myself a pastry and some ginger ale, but as it turned out, most of what we'd be doing, aside from a "booze swap", was just chatting and getting to know one another. I got some small-talk in during my time there, but that time was not much before I decided just to go home and get a good night's sleep so I can work on the lemon (past its very beginning) once and for all.

I think the difference between my frustration w/ Pokemon back in 2001 and that in '11 is twofold. One, there was no "last straw" that made me decide "screw it" ten years earlier. After playing it briefly, I simply put Silver down for reasons that I can't remember, and I only played Crystal for a week upon receiving that before playing Marie's rented copy of Snowboard Kids 2 instead and subsequently starting Chronicles of 7th Grade. Second, is that the franchise was still only in its second generation, and I didn't have any real plans for it, other than to plan out how I could possibly remake RBY and GSC should I ever land a job as a game designer.

That said, now that I've explored the case for returning to Pokemon, I'm leaning back to not doing so. While TV Tropes: The Computer is a Cheating Bastard no longer says anything about RNG-jacking (which was still confirmed through a Google-search), the fact that those games still have their own folder says something, and while I could excuse certain things offhand (especially since players essentially cheat by virtue of player's guides and save-and-loading), I'm not gonna go out of my way to excuse everything. And when the games resort to screwing with a fundamental way that battles work, you know they've crossed a point of no return.

Here's an analogy: If your wife has an affair with another man, and especially if you find out she's been doing that for a while, it doesn't matter what good times you shared together with her, or the adventures you'd forfeit by severing ties with her. If you have any respect for yourself, you will reconcile only if she's willing to redeem herself, and that's not something I see GameFreak doing in the foreseeable future.

Really, most people who appreciate the stories and worldbuilding provided in the games but do not wish to put up with dishonest programming would write something normal for each of the games. I didn't have any real plans for my own fanfiction prior to Parasitic Trio's conception, but probably because I was content with the games as they were up until then.

The fact that what I want mainly out of Parasitic Trio and any possible future fiction happens to be so trivial is exactly why I'm setting such a high bar to reclaim control over it and maybe return to the games. Write the damn sexfic, make progress elsewhere (be it with spritesheets, Starbound, the sumo fic, or whatever else) while playing Candy Crush on the sidelines, catch up with Candy Crush, and see how another PT chapter pans out for me (if Jake doesn't beat me there).

And if I do pick up momentum with the ficseries, I might also very well find some Digimon fanfiction to read, so as to have any reason to explore any new mons in particular on Digidex. With In the Shadow of Chaos, I had initially only read the prologue during the spring of 2005, but would read it more in depth starting the following summer, and the different mons it showcased gave me an actual reason to explore that site, which is what led to me conceiving my own fanfic for it at that time.
