Sep. 24th, 2015 07:39 amNow that I think of it, Brian also mentioned during the other morning's discussion, something about creating memories. While that was never something I had on mind during my childhood or teen years, that does apply to my Pokemon playthrough lineup that started with Red in October '05. Ditto for such events as the Chronicles of 7th Grade lineup (May-Aug '09) and my run of the Earthbound trilogy (late in 2012). It is the same reason why I write about my day-to-day life here, which roots all the way back to when I started writing Co7G (on Microsoft Word) early in 2002.
The reasons I kept records of which Pokemon evolved where or learned which TMs (starting with Red, Crystal, and Sapphire) are something I think about pretty often, and also a bit complicated. Most people don't keep track of any kind of information about their gaming experiences, nor does everyone keep track of their day-to-day experiences in general, let alone on a website for everyone to read about, nor do most people use dice to "spice things up". A lot of that had to do with being autistic (same reason why I rolled a die to decide which level to challenge next when I went on to try out Mega Man, while most "normal" players just experiment), and it's also a major reason why I had conceived Parasitic Trio.
The fact that I also happened to be caught up enough to land that giveaway Deoxys in Pearl was just a happy coincidence. Until I found out about it from a certain news entry in Penny Arcade, promotional freebies weren't something I even thought about. With downloadable content, online services, and other things you can easily miss being so much more common nowadays than during my childhood, if I were to start a new "tradition" with practically anything, I would first have to accept that I've missed out on certain things. To begin with, I'm usually not that interested in the latest games themselves anyway, which is why I only got in on Mega Man (during 2012) a few years after certain things had come and gone for 9, 10, and Powered Up! (The fact that I don't live in Japan does render games like Divine Gate, Phantom of the Kill, and the Madoka Magica mobile game a moot point in that regard.)
(Tip to self: Aesthetics and structure do not always go together. Much of what you can do in games cannot happen in something that plays out on its own. Receiving Ash's Pikachu as a Mystery Gift is awesome enough, but there is no way that would ever happen in anything other than a game. Most legendary Pokemon, despite their obtainability in games beyond their own, are also supposed to be one-of-a-kind each. And with Mega Man, Roll does not fight (Rock was the remaining one who volunteered to, once Dr. Wily stole and reprogrammed all of Dr. Light's other creations), and Proto Man is canonically absent for story-related reasons until the events of game 3.)

The library is going to close very shortly, now that its regular building is almost done being renovated. Time to apply for a job there.
This also means that yesterday will likely be the last time Mom and I go to King Kullen. All my recycling from now on will take place at Stop 'n' Shop, just across the parking lot from the gym; no need to go out of our way just to avoid wasting paper on vouchers when the fuel spent on that isn't environmentally friendly either. Furthermore, getting vouchers instead of quarters means that I'll be getting everything except pennies in roughly equal frequency whenever I turn stuff in.
With $94 in my wallet and most of my current rolls (and one of my spare quarter rolls) already full, this weekend seems like a good one to hit the bank. Just need nine more quarters and 30 more dimes, and then I'll bring everything with me, including several partially full rolls that I'll just re-use after emptying there.
