Finally got back to Zelda II yesterday morning, since it was raining and Dad was having off from the gym, and it turns out that the Wii remote I've been using just isn't usable anymore.

To begin with, it's been defective ever since I started playing the game two weeks ago. Often, it would take minutes at a time of pressing the power button just to activate it, and sometimes it would go off right afterwards, but it would usually stay on once it was on, going off only occasionally when I leave it alone. Now, it doesn't even stay on long enough for me to select the game, whenever I even do get it to "work".

Not helped by an exploded pair of batteries I discovered while setting the Wii up. But, even before that, it had proven slightly problematic when I played Paper Mario more than a year ago. To start with, when I set the system up then, the cursor failed to appear even when I synced the remote, and took a while to finally do appear (something that should not happen, though I guess in retrospect that it had powered off then without me noticing). There were also a few times when it defaulted the controller's directional stick to top-left (as in, causing Mario to walk northwest when it wasn't used, and to stop moving when I held it to the bottom-right).

Mom looked into the situation with me after I tried calling Nintendo tech support (they were closed at the moment), and we got my other remote to work perfectly. Mom agreed to use the batteries from the first one in a flashlight to see how well those work, and suggested I try that one again with some different batteries to see how well it works as #2. (Something tells me, though, that that thing is just shot, and I might very well look into buying a new backup from BestBuy once I get paid for everything I've helped her and Dad with, in case my other one dies on me as well whenever I want to play something on the Wii.)

I'm gonna assume you have no plans on upgrading to a Wü, for instance? Or the NX?

Well, I am planning to get Brian a Wii U for Christmas, but mainly for the Earthbound trilogy (assuming Mother 3 actually does come out for the Virtual Console by then). I am planning to re-buy Zelda II and Paper Mario onto it, though, since former Wii VC games cost only $1 each for that).

That said, no, I am not likely going to buy one of those or the upcoming NX for myself, since I've hardly even bought anything for the Wii original even to this day. Especially since I did state my intentions to return to Pokemon (though that will require a 3DS soon, which I'll probably request for Christmas), to say nothing of Dragon Warrior III (NES), Freedom Planet 2 (Windows), Super God Trooper Zeroigar (PC-FX), Mother 4 (Windows), and my remaining two PSP games. Game systems tend to cost several hundred dollars apiece, and right now, I have less than $1,000 in my budget, which I'd rather spend in Boston and on artwork.
