Oct. 23rd, 2016 08:07 amWent with Mom, Dad, and Grandma to this seafood place called Mill Pond for Grandma's cousin Janie's 90th birthday. There were a ton of people there related to Janie, two of the first I met before we all sat down being Grandma's aunt Ervaleen and her granddaughter Sarah (my age at 30 despite being one generation above me). Upon actually sitting down, I also met one of my distant cousins, Jamie (age 26) and her sister and said sister's boyfriend, both named Taylor and aged 22. Soon, Uncle Robby and Cousin Adam would arrive and sit by me.
Made some small talk with them and several others, but not much happened. Brian did happen to arrive just in time for cake, though, and spent most of our remaining time there chatting with Adam before letting me come home with him.
Given the circumstances, we decided that it might be better to hold off on having Brian read the current Cibus fic until his longer planned visit with Marie for Thanksgiving, and instead just watch The Rebellion Story* if we have time sometime today before he leaves. He told me that watching an anime is so much easier than reading text, and as things stood, he had planned on a nap, and ended up sleeping until evening. When he did wake up, we were watching this movie called Three Little Pigs, and followed it up with some epic-fail videos.

*Yes, I told him that certain things should be taken with a grain of salt. Namely, that the law of conservation of energy dictates that Kyubey should not have had the power to contain Homura the way he did, or else he and his kind would have tried it in the very beginning when they know that the girls they prey on contain energy that no longer goes where they want it to. Homura's actions with Madoka at the end of the movie are also controversial, and while they do constitute abuse, whether they were actually out of character for her remains a subject of debate.
From someone's counter-argument to someone else's argument that she is a "textbook psychopath":
Yeah, true, Homura could have gone to the Law of Cycles with Madoka. Yet… would that truly make her happy? The writer, Gen Urobuchi, said himself that the answer is no. Why not?
-Homura wouldn’t be the protector of Madoka, but the other way around. She wouldn’t be happy that Madoka is, yet again, the one protecting her.
-Homura was under the impression that Madoka didn’t enjoy being the Law of Cycles (stated in flower scene) and it’s half true. Madoka was very happy being the embodiment of hope, able to finally help others in a way that pleases her. But she misses her family and friends. And Homura. A lot.
-Kyubey. They demonstrated in Rebellion that they do indeed have the power to observe and control the Law of Cycles. Godoka would have to live in constant threat of the Incubators.
