dmxratedJake actually got back to me last night, confirming that he actually was on a family trip and has barely even had Internet access for a while. The two of us have agreed that we can continue talking once he has his life back in order, but simply knowing this isn't the end makes me feel better already.
Chelle, I read your emails as well, but am planning to re-read them today. Given what you said, along with the endless reminders of what I hope to unfold one day, though, I'll probably continue with Unwilling Service at some point, keep it all to myself for the time being, and revise as necessary once I actually give it to someone to beta-write.
In the meantime, I am putting Mother aside, and expect to start over with that once Brian goes back after coming to visit soon. Will have to make sure he actually plans on visiting, though.
