Jun. 14th, 2018 06:01 amFound myself dying multiple times at the Cemetery upon playing Earthbound Zero yesterday, after having raised just enough money beforehand for a slingshot and one hamburger. In my last attempt, seeing how the zombie enemies are the strongest there, I tried running from a Gang Zombie, but failed three times before dying.
From there, I downloaded a ROM copy of Mother 1+2 instead, so as to figure out an efficient battle plan, but found myself multiple times fighting zero battles between Ninten's house and Mother's Day, and then exactly two on the way from there to Canary Village, even when I tried starting a new file.
To begin with, there were spots where the enemies spawned and fought me in exactly the same sequence each playthrough, but that wasn't true for those two routes.
Hit Brian up on Facebook, and unlike me, he actually prefers to see the game over screen through when all his characters succumb, and respawn where he last saved with everything he accumulated since, because he figures that's why the developers implement such a feature to begin with. He also knows himself to run from battle pretty frequently in any given game, which naturally makes said game that much harder. This would be all the more reason to figure out which battles to fight and which ones to run from.
But anyway, I actually considered test-playing Mother 3 from here before letting him play that instead while taking back Mother 1+2. Even though he's still interested in playing Breath of the Wild, he said when I asked that he'd currently rather play Mother first, so I didn't see any point in asking that again. (What I had actually said before was that I wouldn't want to keep him from playing that for too long, unless he'd rather play Zelda.) To begin with, all I really needed him to do was to explore Magicant for the sake of Starbound discussion, but after he suggested that that story's party explore new parts for each visit, I did compare it to how Mother 3 does much the same thing with the Nowhere Islands (as well as Dr. Andonuts' Magicant in Earthbound's Halloween hack, which is actually pretty short but still based on Ness's version from Earthbound itself instead of being more original like that was after Mother/EB0).
(Normally, I'd use my ROM copy of M1+2 to figure something out, but it says something when I was originally able in some runs to afford a Slingshot before visiting the Cemetery, something I obviously won't be able to do right now without grinding, with even a somewhat decent chance to defeat zombies depending specifically on that.)
