dmxratedI'm already too far into TTYD to start over now, so it's safe now to write about my experiences while playing.
Completed chapter 5 two days ago. Yesterday morning, I discovered a secret passage to the Pit of 100 Trials while taking a detour from Eve's sidequest to collect three Shine Sprites in what I thought would be one go, but then Dad asked me to vacuum the house before I cleared the sprite room out of Spinias, and I turned the game off. Hadn't bothered saving, so I was able to make preparations for a pit visit on the way back from getting those sprites.
For some reason, the player's guide doesn't mention this (maybe an oversight while copy-and-pasting), but you actually need the Ultra Boots in order to collect one of the sprites in question.
Well, I had already saved my game a number of times, so, no doing it over then.
After completing the sidequest this morning, I eventually realized that I could have hit two birds with one stone and made one trip back to Keelhaul Key to find Franky and Francesca's Wedding Ring and meet someone inside the storage room in Pirate's Grotto for another sidequest. My fault for not reading ahead.
(Then again, assuming the Whacka was even there, I did neglect to follow the path west upon first emerging from the cave back at the entry point, so I did sorta owe myself what was a second Whacka's Bump to compensate, although that is another thing the guide fails to mention, as for that matter is a Shooting Star that a mother of three in Twilight Town would give you in exchange for some food.)
Well, it's highly unlikely that I will ever play this game a second time anytime soon, just for that. Seeing how I tend to play most games only once, unless something actually warrants a second playthrough, I didn't even expect to be playing Earthbound or Mother 3 just last summer. (I did expect to re-play them at some point for the sake of randomizing my purchases, but not until much later in life, to line up with Day of the Beehive if that ever gets made, and maybe with Mother 4 whenever that does come out hopefully much sooner.)
