Writing this early to get off my chest before I hit the gym with Mom soon.

At this point, I think I might just call it quits on Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

What's just gotten to me to begin with, is finding out that the only place to land a Mystic Egg is pretty easy to miss, but I could have gotten one while delivering a Life Shroom to the Puni Elder there. I found out while preemptively reading what sidequests become available after chapter 6, one of which requires one of the former and two other ingredients for Chef Shimi to cook with. The player's guide does not point anything out, and even though Petuni's email to you does provide a clue, it's easy to dismiss along with those from everyone else.

More importantly, though, is the limited practicality of using items. This comes as no surprise after having already played the N64 game, but here, there's a point system shared between all the game's stores, in which you can land an item for each of certain purchase numbers, going all the way to 300. So far, I managed to make barely over 50 for a Thunder Rage. This only goes to insult me, considering not only how few items you can have on your character and in storage combined, but how few you end up actually needing when not only do you recover all your health and power upon levelling up but you can even get new items during battle.

Well, I do understand that Super Paper Mario has you battle enemies in its real world (at least I think it does, judging by something I saw on YouTube involving underwater arms that reach out for you), and that there are also two chefs, one of whom requires two ingredients at a time to cook with. That game might still be viable for me, although that only goes to underscore what a total waste I can only perceive with TTYD. (Then again, game 1 would have failed my personal test to begin with, despite passing for Game Gourmet itself, but I didn't even play that for that trope (that game is what led to my second attempt to codify it), only out of subconscious interest ever since renting a copy once when I was fifteen.)

(Similarly, I will probably have to download a digital player's guide of Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance at some point before finalizing how I will play that whenever I come back to it.)
