Voithru, one of the sites I contacted through ProZ the other day, got back to me two days ago with a test that I managed to start yesterday after taking some time with a tutorial. I expect this to take a few days, but as I go along, I am able to figure out the gist of what someone in a YouTube video is saying, albeit aided with Google Translate since everything but the on-screen subtitles is already transcribed. If I manage to score high enough, that might pave the way for some actual paid work, allowing me to bypass Kanji in Context after all, where I'm already able to figure stuff out within seconds.
