dmxratedA few days ago, I was instructed on Upwork to speak to someone's employer on Wire for an interview. At some point, Marie called while I was waiting for the other person to get back to me. I filled her in on the details, and she warned me that that might have been a scam.
Not long after I gave the phone to Dad, I was sent an email instructing me to print up a check. Called Mom, and she confirmed that a red flag.
Marie had called at just the right moment. And that was not long after Mom called me during an earlier pause and then told me just to resume.
From now on, and I also did this later the same day, I am simply going to report anyone who asks me to speak to them offsite, something both Upwork and Freelancer have specific policies against.
