Mar. 14th, 2022 06:03 amWaited yesterday morning to have breakfast out with Brian and Emily.
That turned out to be a mistake, given a food and flea market event that slipped my mind would be taking place somewhere in town. I found myself barely hungry at all, and ended up buying just a container of fruit salad to have in the car with Marie and Drew, and a few cookies with Oreo bits inside to have for a snack later. (Would've liked some ice cream instead, but at least fruit is still cold and sweet, better than meat given how full I was otherwise.)
At one point either before or after, they talked about how fat their cat Mac has gotten, and considered putting her on a diet. I told them about this cat Mozuku from New Game! who is particularly fat, and they suggested I show them a picture.
After some grocery shopping, they dropped me off back at the apartment for a nap before inviting Brian and Emily to play croquet. I did some stuff online before actually taking said nap, and then called them to come bring me over. (And it was then that we finally got to bring our wash to the house.)
After having heard from Marie several times so far about it, I actually got my first peek of Drew playing Elden Ring. Namely, he was selecting different equipment for his character, and that actually changed his appearance, unlike in most games I know. I went on to comment on that, comparing it to such RPGs, similarly to someone's comparison on Reddit between JRPGs and WRPGs (such as about how the story is usually linear or open respectively).
Compared even more particularly to Disgaea, and while I do like to imagine just momentarily whoever I equip actually wearing what I give them (just like with food), and while weapons in that particular series and others, even those within the same category, are in fact individuated visually (except for those for monsters, who are each shown fixed with a different weapon altogether or even an unarmed move like kicking or scratching), it is generally more pleasing aesthetically to see everyone dressed more uniquely. I cited Flonne and Etna in particular, specifying the latter to be based on a stereotypical succubus. (Basically a form of segregation between gameplay and display, get it?)
Coming off of that, Brian went on to ask as we went out on the deck, what a succubus is, and Emily explained, citing the Red Queen from Game of Thrones as an example. (This also came up again later, when we assumed an incubus to be the victim of a succubus, but I corrected the others that they're actually the male equivalent, which Emily verified on her phone.)
I also waited for Marie and Drew to come out, before playing a recording I took of The Slant. Neither Brian nor Marie could remember, despite remembering such other artists as Spoon and Talking Heads that we've listened to around the same time and once again this past week. Brian did find out on a site called SputnikMusic, though, that that band was based on Long Island, and never got to market itself beyond there, which would explain its general lack of an online presence otherwise.
Having that on my phone, I also went on when we got up, even though Marie and Drew had already left the deck, to show Brian and Emily my wallpaper. I mentioned that I might put on an actual episode for Marie and Drew, but Brian suggested I just stick to my plans for here.
We went on to play horseshoes, and I took a few tries with that, but didn't find it very interesting.
We also saw a deer down in this canal behind the backyard.
Went inside by myself to relax for a bit. While I was at it, I looked for Madoka, but unlike Kanon or Lucky Star, that show is not available properly on YouTube, or almost anywhere else on Roku. Even though I am able to view Crunchyroll for free on my computer, I was offered a free trial to view it on the TV, which would imply getting charged automatically once that ends, as had happened to me before with Funimation, which in turn I am not subscribing a new month for just for here when I have only a few days left here, and especially after failing to tap previously into anything I had borrowed on DVD.
Would've liked to alternate between Lucky Star and Madoka, but I went on to tell Marie and Drew that the latter should probably wait until they come to Long Island instead.

For dinner, Marie and Drew grilled up some burgers and hot dogs. I should have mentioned that I don't like American cheese, and it's a good thing we had one patty without cheese, along with one more hot dog left to put together after I finished my burger.
We all went on a stroll around the neighborhood, before watching episode 3 of Lucky Star.
After that ended, we all shared the remote around to show eachother random stuff on YouTube. Marie started with another story we used to watch, Tikki Tikki Tembo, and Drew continued it with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The version he showed us was animated, but he stopped it halfway through, stating it not to have aged well for him.
We watched various music videos and some other things like an anime swordfight and someone painting a portrait of someone's face.
This in particular, which showed up on my desktop just randomly a week ago, took me two different attempts to find, under multiple search terms and requiring me to look it up on my phone in-between. Its title being in Japanese might've had something to do with that. (It's a 3D video of Ranka and Sheryl from Macross dancing for an audience and singing an ending theme of the show.)

Despite sticking to things just under five minutes long, we ended up staying several hours, long enough to watch multiple episodes of Lucky Star or even fit an episode each of some other shows in.
