Writing off XC2, after finding out that you can have more Blades present for each Driver than even your active Drivers can have active in turn.

I didn't always have a problem with that in and of itself, but while food in this game does not recover HP et al anyway, the effects it does provide only last a fixed amount of time each. Naturally, you have no reason to give pouch items of any kind to any party members sitting on the sidelines, which means that only six characters will actually get to eat whenever you decide it's time for a meal.

Getting rid of the headcount limit might be feasible in a game like Revenant Kingdom, where food works similarly, with only six characters in total to your party (not counting Lofty, who could be inferred not to require food). Here, though, not only would it overcrowd your space with a total of 20 characters (five Drivers w/ three Blades each), but the way the relationship between Driver and Blade works is an explicit part of the game's worldbuilding that I would prefer not to undermine.

Finding something like this out in advance for the end of any walkthroughs I publish is exactly why I checked this game out, and plan to check others out, but also the reason I did not buy any DLC with it. In this case, it actually occurred to me to look up how many Blades each Driver can have in total even before I reached whatever point I can summon new Blades, but you still can't anticipate everything just by reading about something; anything you assume about a game could be proven wrong once you get an actual feel for said game, as had been the case just recently with Ys VIII.

Well, this might just rule out the upcoming XC3, and with it, any current reason to ever bother investing in a modified Nintendo Switch. Might still check out that games menu once it's out, mainly out of curiosity, and see if both food and the party work any differently in there. I am still not likely to preorder it, though, because even though that's the only way to be able to refund games, the actual refund would likely be in credit that expires after 3-6 months, and there is nothing else I currently have plans for from the Nintendo eShop.
