Mom's latest story that she's been listening to in the car has been Born a Crime, about author Trevor Noah's life growing up in South Africa during apartheid.

Two days ago, we reached a part where his mother was hospitalized after being shot by an abusive husband that she had finally left, and it turns out that she had opted out of health insurance a few months prior, for which he was told the hospital would have to take her to a state-run one at risk of her dying en route. He offered to cover the debts to have her tested where they were, until realizing other possibilities besides such massive debt itself he'd wind up in.

He narrates that anyone can say they'd do anything for a loved one, until they realize there's only so much they actually can do. I made an analogy to THIS IS IT!, where I had pointed that out by having Konata realize how increasingly futile it is just for Yutaka's sake to endure what the antagonists were putting her through.

Showed to her just yesterday when she stopped up in the apartment, and she asked why I stopped writing if I write so well. I explained to her that there are things I do much more efficiently, that I can carry on with much longer at a time each day and don't burn out so easily from, such as devising game mechanics and writing randomization walkthroughs. (I explained that before, although the game does still stand, and this is also why I seek others to mod games for me, instead of trying to learn how to do that myself when I've already got my hands full with those other two things and Unity.)
