Things just so lined up yesterday that I started to wonder if Muhammad might actually be a charlatan.

Continuing from the previous day, he sent me a .rar file containing some stuff, and cited various "changes", most of which were names for various characters into what they already are in the raw game (such as the main characters originating as Cain, Magdelena, Judas, and Eve). One of these, however, was Akron (mentioned only in the inter-game prologue) known "now" as "the Devil".

So anyway, he instructs me to put the folder into the following directory:

C://Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Epic Battle Fantasy 4/resources

Sure enough, I did find that on my computer, but did have to create my own Resources folder. I load the game, and nothing was different, not even Akron's aforementioned name. Understandable that he would charge me another $100 for the effort he still had to put in, but then I brought the whole thing up on Discord to see if maybe I did something wrong, only to be told that what I should have received was a "delta" file to apply with a program called deltapatcher. That seemed to seal the deal right then and there, if he couldn't give me something so basic to anyone who knows how to mod PC games.

I went on to cancel a Mother 3 contract on him, leave negative feedback, and request a refund. He called me out on such behavior, but combined with some other things from beforehand, there didn't seem to be any point trying to reason with him. I had already believed him when he explained some reasons for initially presenting such low prices that he went on to blow way up, and believing myself to have started using my head, went on at that point to decide that there simply is no good reason to present such low prices in the first place; to scrutinize him any further than that just seemed redundant.

I initially wasn't going to run it past Mom upon reflecting on it in my notebook, figuring that she would just agree, and especially to avoid an earful about having thrown so much good money after bad, but it's a good thing I wound up doing that anyway. She asked me to show her two of my exchanges with him so far, and surmised from what he had gone on to say, that he was actually being pretty reasonable with me. I conceded, and apologized to him for my outburst.

She also suggested I show everything thus far to Brian when he comes over next week. I made sure to mention to him how much he knows about programming, and he asked me to show him our exchanges. (If I'm lucky, maybe Brian will have some insight that could help Muhammad as well, in case we ever return to anything.)

We managed to patch things up, and he claims to be doing much better with a few bugfixes for Mother 3 than he did with the first two games. He has also shown me a program called Mother3Randomizer, which I tried out but couldn't get to work properly before having to come down for dinner and then finding myself too tired to try any further.
