Jun. 28th, 2023 05:51 amIt ultimately turned out that open shifts are not easy to come across. I ran certain intentions of mine past Mom two days ago, to set one upcoming week aside to take up as many as possible, in order to offer the kind of money I originally expected to be making each week, and she advised me to start early before they all get taken up. After coming home from a walk and several errands we were running, I had a look at the calendar in this app we were given during orientation, and the only shifts listed, even when I tapped New Request -> Open Shift, were those already scheduled for me.
Even though the store is roughly ten minutes away from here, I usually ask Dad to drive me there half an hour before my shift begins, so that I don't cut too close. That turned out for the better; since I can only punch in five minutes before I'm supposed to start, I had time to ask Kristina about open shifts, and as I had actually come to suspect, there weren't any to begin with because the store had just hired a whole batch of new employees to cover them all.
Also took then to check the employee reward menu at Dunkin' Donuts. Asked the cashier about those, and was told to download the chain's app. Good thing I took then to take care of that at least.

Yesterday's shift began with Tai, and then my supervisor Lashawna, showing me how to go around the store and pick orders off the shelves.
My first day at the job, I was passing Tai on my way probably to punching in when she said something about anime to someone, and told her I'm into that as well. She brought that up when we were finishing my first go-around, and I showed her my phone image, before we both cited some other shows we're into. (Made plans from there to update my MAL page from here, before sharing that and this blog with her.)
Can't remember whether this was towards the end of my first or second session with her, but I also asked Tai if, as opposed to open shifts, I'd be getting more pre-scheduled shifts some weeks than others. She cited the holidays to be already busier than usual, so I suppose I will have to just save up until then and then see how many days I end up working then.
My session with Lashawna ended with having to ask a manager to retrieve a TV mount for certain dimensions from high above the floor. We brought the cart back to the BOPIC (Buy Online, Pick up In Club) section at 12, but I had to wait half an hour before Lashawna finally came back with it, before even storing everything else there for pickup.
It was after that when I would take my lunch break. I tried to take advantage of employee rewards by ordering a ham-and-swiss croissant stuffer and a cold brew (went with caramel when given a choice of flavors), but I had to create an account for the Dunkin' app, and then enter a six-digit code texted to me, the latter which I had to retry several times before I noticed how to toggle directly between apps instead of pressing the home button in-between.
I also meant to order a "free" packaged slice of an iced lemon loaf, but after receiving the other two things, was told that that's only free alongside a drink. Decided then to get a vanilla creme donut instead.
Right after I sat down in the breakroom, Kristina and Lashawna both confronted me about taking much longer than what's supposed to be 15 minutes for lunch. As it turns out, 30-minute breaks are for six hours or longer, and I don't even have to punch out for my alloted 15 minutes. They did leave after clearing things up with me, but I made a point just to hurry through my croissant and drink, saving my donut for tomorrow's snack at Mom's advice when she'd pick me up. (Having went on to look at my remaining rewards in advance, I am probably gonna order just a croissant and a medium iced coffee today, skipping the middle course, just to see how long in total it takes me to receive and finish those.)

Mom had to drive to Meat Farms and the post office between picking me up and returning home. During the latter errand, she dropped me off just to drop something in the mailbox, and just as we were leaving, we saw someone park not only somewhere not meant for parking, between the building and the edge of the premises, but with their left wheels on the edge of the sidewalk.
