Dec. 28th, 2023 05:42 amBrian has been the one driving me to work this past week, and Marie also came for the ride these past couple of days. Just yesterday, Marie asked me if I ever manage to clear the entire parking lot, but there actually seem to be way more carts than could fill both cart bays even outdoors. I compared the job to my old experiences with Food Fantasy, where just when I'd be finished with one task, there'd be other things to take care of.
Also compared it to Hotel Mario for the Phillips CD-i and what that's all about. To quote the Angry Video Game Nerd:
All you do is shut doors. Yeah, seriously, the goal is to shut all the doors before the time runs out, and then advance to the next stage. [Skipping a line for redundancy.] As much fun as that sounds, it's even more fun when the doors keep opening again. Just when you think you're about to shut the last door and beat the level, another door opens, and by the time you run all the way over there, another one opens.

Brian expressed interest in the existence of such a game, and I told him it's actually pretty notorious in the fandom, along with the system's three Zelda games in that one.
(Whenever I do show him, probably today, I should also show him that game's secret cutscene (from its second world).)

Quite by coincidence, the actual shift was busier than ever; for once, I could barely keep up with the lefthand cart bay, such that I simply left the shutter open to bring carts directly through. There are these two machines to move multiple carts at a time with, but I had forgotten immediately how to power them on after someone showed me how to operate them and then some other stuff right thereafter (I meant to ask him again, but they tend to be already in use most of the time, and I was the only cart attendant there yesterday).
Someone did show up at the end of my shift, and explained that the one other person besides him had to call out.
Took then to clock out, and saw a text message from two minutes earlier telling me to meet everyone at my right upon leaving the building. There Brian was in his minivan, with Drew riding shotgun, Emily in the middle, Maris next to her, and Marie in the back. They dropped me and Maris home before going to Cathedral Pines; I took my usual nap, while Mom played with Maris.

The five of us went to Texas Roadhouse later, since I still had that gift card from last year.
On our way inside, I was ahead of Brian and Emily while we awaited Marie and Drew. Brian commented that I was getting "cart arms". (Incidentally, Emily had commented at Uncle Robby's that I had gotten thinner since she last saw me.) At some point, I commented that that job might just make the gym redundant for me, but Brian begged to differ. He mentioned that people who work physically demanding jobs like that often get weak in the long run, getting arthritis and such, but I mentioned that I put focus on my legs (or my shoulders whenever I'm already moving sideways) when pushing numerous carts at a time, just like he and Dad had taught me before.
Ordered a BBQ chicken and sirloin with a side each of buttered corn and seasoned rice. At first, the rice tasted a little bland, but Drew, who was also having some, stated that it actually gets better towards the bottom, with some roasted garlic there.
And for the first time there, I ordered some strawberry cheesecake for dessert, instead of a Big Ol' Brownie.

Rode home with Marie and Drew. Along the way, Marie asked me to suggest a name for a new family group chat. Came up with Tsukikage, after the protagonists' organization from Release the Spyce. (Could've also come up with something like M-Squad, Magical Five (both from Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka), or Eagle Jump (from New Game!), but, no point flip-flopping; maybe next turn I get.)
Downloaded a pic of Momo and Yuki from that show for the group's icon.

Mom joined us for last night's episode of Made In Abyss.
Early on, she commented that she wanted to binge-watch more of that show last year, but I wouldn't let her. I explained after the episode ended that, originally, I had bought season 2 of Love, Chuunibyou, & Other Delusions as a Christmas gift to her, but even after that fell through, I still subscribed a month to Funimation to watch the rest of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, and wanted to take advantage of that. Then we got those DVDs at some library we never visited before, right before our trip to Florida. Reading back, I have noticed a lengthy gap from after we finished and returned Higurashi: When They Cry (we couldn't keep renewing anything online by that point; Mom had to renew that one in person), but even before that, she had also asked to see Sailor Moon, and that became the next thing I made a point to get around to showing her (aside from To Heart, Nyanko Days, and season 2 of New Game!, each under specific circumstances).
(In any case, as long as I am subscribed, the point at which everyone leaves would be perfect for continuing Made In Abyss, even before finishing off Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, watching the New Game! episodes we missed before (also on Crunchyroll this time), and rewatching How Heavy are the Dumbells You Lift? at her recent request.)
