Marie created a new Signal chat just for us kids (I guess so as not to distract Mom at work w/ something not involving her), initially called "Placeholder name". I took then to decide on M-Squad, and retrieved one of my old phone wallpapers, of Asuka, Kurumi, and Sacchuu having just arrived at a certain building. Forwarded to Marie, but she used just Sacchuu for the actual icon, which does work in its own way, he is the in-show group's mascot and advisor (and an actual ally, just to be clear, unlike Kyubey or Fav in their own shows).

Emily was too exhausted to make her way here from whoever's house she had slept at (her parents', or Maggie's?), and we ended up going to IHOP without her once Drew woke up and came downstairs.

This happening at 10, I decided personally to count this as brunch of sorts while the others had it as regular breakfast. Having already seen the special tie-in menu with the recent Willy Wonka film, I ordered a stack of Wonka's Perfectly Purple Pancakes for what would be my snack, and a cup of Scrumdiddlyumptious Strawberry Hot Chocolate for a drink, all to go with the Ultimate Bacon & Sausage Combo (listed with several regular combos in the same (physical) menu) as my actual main course. The last of those initially came without the bacon, and Marie and I had to wait for our waitress to finish speaking to another party before pointing that out. (I did encourage Marie to take a picture regardless, deciding not to see how long it would take for the bacon to come then.)

(I had also noticed this burger in that sub-menu online, called the Fantastical Wonka Burger, but it seemed to consist mostly of regular burger fillings, with only the onions (already) purple. Would've gotten that as my main course if we were there for lunch or dinner instead of breakfast.)

During our time there, Brian and Drew talked about the two previous Willy Wonka film adaptations, which film was better and why, and then about the Super Smash Bros. series, mostly about the first three games and its different characters, which ones break which games, how new ones throw each game's balance out of whack, and so on. I chimed in about my own ideas for what, or who, should've been in Ultimate despite my lack of interest otherwise in the actual series since game 1, and have a lot more to say than what I managed there.

-

For starters, it would be hilarious if Not Important, the fan-nickname for the otherwise unnamed Antagonist / villain protagonist of Hatred, one of the few games ever rated Adults Only for non-sexual reasons (a rating that prevents license for most consoles), were to make the cut as a fighter, to either fight or team up with all the various heroes and fellow villains alike. He'd be colored, especially since everyone else has different costumes or at least color palettes to choose from, but his stage would render everyone black-and-white who goes to fight there. And for his Final Smash, well, see his final action.

Other characters I imagine include, for starters, Hinako Shirai, the first protagonist of Blue Reflection (that game I showed Drew the other day) and the person I chose for my phone wallpaper, but also such characters as Earthworm Jim, the Angry Birds, Brad Armstrong (from Lisa), Estelle Bright (The Legend of Heroes), Rei Hatada (Crystar), Luca Blight (the first main antagonist from Suikoden II, alongside someone less prominent overall), Laharl, Etna, Flonne (all from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness), and Sonic.exe (from someone's creepypasta, although there are fangame adaptations of the in-story game, such as The Spirits of Hell).

(Yeah, I did mention a rule for game-first franchises, but did have some kind of fascination before with Sonic.exe, since the actual Sonic franchise did fulfill that rule. That might arguably open the way for Sally Acorn from Sonic SatAM, and then that show's version of what is firmly Dr. Robotnik (as opposed to Dr. Eggman, Japan-only at the time), which would make things even more awkward (or amusing) if we were to incorporate the AoStH version. However, if the official game can star someone like Monkey D. Luffy from an anime-first franchise like One Piece, then Smash itself might as well just be Mugen, in a way.)

The characters mentioned above would be sure to bring their own unique flavors to the table, ranging from the comical Angry Birds theme and trumpet solo God's Call (played by an actual character), to such bangers as Overload (that song from the other day) and Sophisticated Fight, to something mournful from Crystar (haven't seen enough to decide, but Rei's victory pose could be to break down into tears and either cry "Mirai!" (her sister's name) or apologize), to the creepy or ominous for Not Important and Sonic.exe each (I could never make out Hatred's opening stage's music through all the noise to match up in the OST, but Sonic.exe (the original fanfic) did mention use of Giygas' battle intro from Earthbound and the final boss theme from Silent Hill, among other songs, which are also used in TSoH). And then there's Earthworm Jim: My favorite stage/song combo from the actual games is from Level Ate, but aside from my other favorite song in its own right, the New Junk City theme (Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, PS3/360), there are also the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (public domain) that would fit anywhere, and Planet Heck, the first game's second level's setting, accompanied initially by Night on Bald Mountain (also public domain) before turning right into something un-fitting for Hell.

And on the topic of music, I do gather Ultimate to choose whichever song corresponds to either your character of choice or whoever you're fighting, regardless of where. The N64 game putting Ness in Dream Land or Captain Falcon on Planet Zebes is one thing (they're both secret characters), but this just kinda disappointed me to find out.

And finally, I guess for the sake of simplicity, I do tend to half-imagine the game itself, or at least whoever fights whom, as a somewhat straightforward 3D fighter like Battle Arena Toshinden. (And yes, I know most people are much more familiar with the possibly still-ongoing Soul Calibur series, but while I did play SC1 with Matthew once, Toshinden is the game whose music I followed along with better twice earlier, before revisiting years later on YouTube and then checking out each of its sequels there.)

Paid our bill with these two fifties I had gotten at Uncle Robby's, which Brian supplemented with a few singles for a ten back. That should save me a trip to the bank for right now.

-----

Joined Brian and Marie to work on this New Yorker puzzle shortly after we arrived home. At some point, Mom called my cell, and I bumped my head on the chandelier rim while getting up so suddenly (yeah, the table is in a rather awkward position in relation thereto right now), before answering her call to arrange a bus for work tomorrow.

-----

Finally showed Brian this map from Rohan, of Kuki, Japan. Long story short, he had a good look over it,a lot to say, and suggested I create a list of reasonable edits to request.

Drew came into the apartment while we were talking, followed by Marie moments later, and we ended up talking about this and that, including shows to watch, anime or otherwise. Notably, I commented how odd it was that our parents had yet to offer them The PJs (especially after I mentioned Thurgood's job Christmas morning, in comparison to one of Dad's pre-proprietorship jobs that he was describing during breakfast), but Brian pointed out that Northern Exposure had ended up overshadowing that more or less (he and Marie did watch an episode with our parents in the evening, but Drew had gone upstairs, Emily had left, and I had gone to bed).

-----

While some of us were playing with Maris in the porch later, Dad came in and decided to play the drums for the first time I've seen or heard him do in a while. Maris sure seemed to enjoy the act, turning her head around when Emily turned around at one point while holding her.

He also read Goodnight Moon to her shortly after everyone but me left the porch.

-----

Marie and Drew have concluded their visit this morning. Brian left to drive them to the airport, and I am taking a SCAT bus to work, having arranged that at Mom's aforementioned advice for in case he doesn't come back in time to drive me.
