dmxratedGrandpa showed me this newspaper cover yesterday, showing an aerial view of just how destructive Hurricane Sandy had really been a month ago, something that I've already been aware of. He, Uncle Robby, and Cousin Adam were lucky to have only lost electricity, given their location well above sea level, and to have a generator that could power up two rooms. Everyone was talking about the situation later on. This small amusement park that we kids, Mom, Robby, and Adam went to one summer night in 2004? Gone, though it might be possible to rebuild at some point after all the debris is cleared away (which is probably going to take three whole months).

Told Mom last night that I can't wait until Brian comes home next month so I can talk to him personally about what's possible for the short term in terms of gaining control over anything. She then asked me what it was that gave me such a stance on male-bashing double-standards in the first place, and also told me that Marie was curious as well.
During my first semester in college during the fall of 2004, my writing teacher at the time (can't remember her name) read this paragraph about the topic to us. Said paragraph described how things are in The Simpsons and The Berenstain Bears, and also the existence of jokes such as "If you're stuck and need a new tire, who would most likely give it to you: Santa Claus, Oprah Winfrey, or a decent man? Oprah, because the other two don't exist."
A year and a half later, I'm trying to think of comical situations where a male gets mad at a female, possibly involving abuse or threats, and could count such instances on one hand. That's when it hits me, that this is exactly the result of history-long oppression of women and how they tend to get back at men, and it's not even limited to that.
Not long ago, I proposed a trope called Guys Scold Girls Too, Y'know.... Somehow, I myself was able to come up with a good handful of examples, even though most of them didn't even involve abuse (comical or otherwise; several did, though). I didn't mention it on this blog, and it died out after twenty discussion posts.

Later on, after going to bed, I called Mom over to ask her (not for the first time) to switch to a different insurance company than StateFarm, because of this commercial that I saw a few times on some video site. She told me that she doesn't care about the commercials so much as about the way the company does business, and that they've been on too good terms since 1985 to just cut them off. She also asked me rhetorically if I would really cut off good companies because of the way they advertise things, to which I said yes. She asked me if I really intend to let all this shit make me feel bad until Brian comes home, and I told her that I don't know how to deal with things while PIX11 continues to air commercials depicting only men as idiots during the morning news. On that note, I asked that she and Dad turn the TV all the way off when the commercials come on. Muting it isn't enough, because when I eat breakfast, I eat at the side of the table where I'm facing the TV, since that side is closer to the kitchen, and I also like to sit in the armchair in our living room early in the morning. To that, she suggested that maybe we could arrange our other armchair (currently right here in the computer room) so that I can just recline on that instead.
This morning, before she left for work, Mom asked me if maybe I'm feeling agitated right now from forcing myself to work on that spritesheet, which is so tedious that I tend to work on only one sprite at a time before taking nearly an hour or so to get to the next one. I told her that I've been planning to play the rest of Angry Birds Seasons once I complete the regular, non-hived sets for Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki, but she suggested that I just have a break from the project right now and just have myself a vacation, so that my shitty mood doesn't ruin Marie and Grandpa's visits here for Thanksgiving.
(Thus far, I had finished Kagami's non-hived set this past Sunday, and decided to play one round of Chip-chan Kick just to unwind for the rest of the night, before starting with Tsukasa. Monday was the last day I'd be able to play anything in my room, so I spent whatever time I wasn't raking and mowing leaves for that day to play more rounds of the game before Mom set the TV input to cable. And yesterday, I managed to get six out of twenty of Tsukasa's sprites done. Normally, I would require myself to get a decent amount of stuff finished in something that requires concentration between playing any two games, like with Kanji in Context and the Mega Man series, but I suppose I could set that rule aside for once.)

Regarding the weapons, it's in the visual of what you based the weapons on :
Mondo: item specifically made for combat situation
Katsuo: item specifically made for combat situation
Jamison: foresting item
Kevin/Davis: item specifically made for combat situation
Derek: item specifically made for combat situation
Drake: item specifically made for combat situation
Rokuna: multipurpose item most commonly seen on farm
Anneth: communication item
Rachael: art item
Attiya: multipurpose item most commonly seen in kitchen
Elena: farm item (or in ancient times, torture item)
Kasumi: time tool + art item
All guys have big items from with work that's considered really masculine and strong (soldiers and woodworkers). All girls have slender items more commonly associated with docile professions.
Attiya's knife is really small with a mere 5 inch blade, nothing for a battlefield with monsters. Kasumi needs a substitute cause her item can't be used for combat, and so uses a ribbon stick. Anneth doesn't have a legitimately badass polearm, instead she has a glorified flag (despite how much a hindrance that piece of cloth would be) with the blade concealed (what, would she hurt herself if it wasn't?). It makes the girls look weak compared to the guys, as if they can't handle the tough stuff.
In short, I wrongly assumed you would be averse to that as well, although I actually had been meaning to ask you for a personal copy of that entry.
Oh, okay. I'll look up that entry later, and I think at some point I'm going to just write one big entry on all sorts of unfortunate implications and stereotypes in fiction, will probably help me order my thoughts.
You say that all abuse should be done away with, and I respect that point.
I'm really sure I never said that.
I want all misrepresenting fiction about abuse to be done away with. Things like in Seimaden and Love Monster, which in all seriousness present the abuse as if it's acceptable and romantic.
I also want that if there must be cartoon physics, it's equally distributed amongst not just gender, but also all ages, races and everything else.
I don't want all depictions of abuse to be gone at all. Movies and books that seriously deal with abuse are good, because they make people aware of problems they'd otherwise ignore.

In all, I see what you mean. I suppose Attiya's weapon could be a full foot long. Just not nearly so long as a sword, is all. Kasumi, actually, wields a nightstick (notice no "k"), the kind that police officers wield at close quarters. And, with Anneth's weapon, that's a good point; to conceal the blade would be redundant, although the cloth part, being part of an enchanted weapon, would be used to create wind (as well as representing it as the weapon of Wind).

Exactly my point the whole time. Excel Saga passes with that (if I recall correctly), but Magical Witch Punie-chan had better have some male-on-female action if I am ever to give that show a second chance.
That was worded poorly, sorry. I was talking about why I had to repeatedly explain what I meant (that thing you say you forgot the explanation of), it wasn't a comment about your overall attitude.
Hoping that part's resolved already, although I did remember after my first reply that you mentioned in a certain past email that you want no more situations where I get riled up about injustice in fiction. My MWP-chan rant was the first situation afterwards that I initially assumed was exactly that. So, yeah, there is that reason.

Also, thanks for showing me that sketch of Attiya with the daggers. If you'd like my opinion, I think it might be even better if the Knights as a group were depicted diagonally while poised for battle like that. Kinda like this:
